National Business Review Website

The National Business Review’s website is a hub of news and sources relating to New Zealand’s business environment. To make the website more usable for a wider demographic, the site offers a Chinese section with articles typed in Chinese alongside a Chinese stock market table. Although this is great for Chinese users, it does little for users of other denominations.

The site uses two tab bars – the larger blue one and the dark grey one. The dark grey tab bar looks like it’s supposed to be sub headings of the main tab bar. However it is not. This makes it confusing and difficult to naviagte.

The Roger Ramsey Building website exists to promote these Waikato renovations experts services. So the sites ability to promote these services will be kept in mind when judging it’s usability.

Information is displayed in a clear and accessible way. This is evident through the homepage text. Instead of large blocks of text, it is broken up into short sentences, bulletpoints, different fonts and a photo is used to break it up further.

While the bulletpoints on the homepage illustrate services offered, it’s difficult to find these services explained anywhere else on the site. Additional pages or galleries with this information may make the site more user friendly if the user is after this information.

The site doesn’t have any e-commerce capabilities – and so it shouldn’t. Sites for renovations can’t have e-stores due to them offering unique services with differing prices.

BBC Website Usability

The BBC is an incredibly well known British broadcasting corporation. As such, it is expected that their website meets up to their high renown status.

Navigation

The BBC website is chocked full of information and pages. While there is a lot of information to take in, BBC makes a conscious effort to make the site navigational. The top tab categorizes different areas effectively. There is also a search bar with thousands of results right at your fingertips.

Learnability

The BBC website follows a familiar approach  of other broadcasting company websites. Categories are typically genre’s eg News, Sport, Weather etc.

They also use an easy to remember URL – bbc.co.uk . This makes it easier for repeat visitors to find the site again.

Another nice feature is colour schemes relating to each category. News is auburn, Sport is yellow, weather is aqua, iPlayer is pink, TV is black and radio is black. These color schemes are incorporated on the different pages. It would have been more effective if different colours were used for TV and radio.

Overall BBC has met high standards expected of their website.
